Hello, all! Say, it's been a while since we've done a director retrospective, hasn't it? It's a big job, so we brought in mega Soderbergh fan Shaun Higgins to help us! (..okay, he suggested it and we agreed we were sorely lacking on Soderbergh coverage.)
Join us as we talk every experiment Soderbergh has done from The Girlfriend Experience to the Oceans films to The Informant! to Traffic to etc, etc. Each film may as well be its own genre of movie as different from one another as they are! So strap in as we explore the career of a true journeyman!

Hello and welcome!
This week we're highlighting film that we feel we need to help remove an asterisk on. See, every time a film wins best picture at that year's Oscars carries a stigma because it is then drenched in the popularity contest that is the Academy Awards. Well, every so often, a film ACTUALLY DESERVES it because it is indeed the best film of the year. That's right, we're discussing Moonlight. The film is a tone poem of pure cinema and emotions that washes over the viewer, and we're going to do our best to try to get at what makes this movie great.
WARNING: Full spoilers are ON, though we're not sure if it makes much difference, as you really need to see the film to experience it, and no amount of talking will spoil that.

Hello and welcome!
This week we pay tribute to our friend, filmmaker Harold Ragsdale, who went out in a literal blaze of glory when his hotel room caught fire on New Year's Eve this last year. He had just that day supervised the final cut of what would turn out to be his final film, the religious ensemble Easter Sunday. Since it is a religious film, we of course brought in Thomas to help us out in picking this one apart. (We SWEAR we'll have you on for a good film soon, Thomas).

2008? Me neither. ...at least, that's what we'd be saying if the resulting Cartoon Network animated series didn't, um... get really good.
Yes, we're covering the 2008 theatrical Clone Wars movie, aka the Thing That Almost Killed Star Wars As a Viable Franchise. Barring the actual Clone Wars series, we get into the nitty gritty of the era of Star Wars between Episodes III and the Disney takeover where George Lucas just sort of gave up. Between the awful pilot being released as a theatrical movie, the Dark Horse comics being subpar, and prospect of any more live action films being made basically dead, it was a dark time.
So grab your lightsabers and lets rip and tear Clone Wars: Hutt Family Reunion!

Ahead of the Netflix series, we decided to address Justin Simien's debut film Dear White People.
Full disclosure: We are, indeed, two white guys (if you didn't already know), so we can't comment on the film from inside black culture, but we can look at it from the perspective of, well.. white people. (No worries, we love the film, which is why we're giving it the deserved attention).
We also expound on some of the deeper, more universal social issues the film brings up because hey, we have things to say about them too.

Okay, unlike what you probably expected, this is not an Oscar prediction cast, but a long overdue rant exposing the seedy underbelly of what the Oscars really are. We'll most notably pick on the 2015 Oscars because it's the most notable example in recent memory, but we're talking the ceremony in general.
We are, of course, speaking from a standpoint of hey, we've been following it all our lives and continue to follow them because they are influential.

Welcome to a deadly serious edition of The Film Room
Due to recent events, we have decided to do two things. One is to cover an Iranian film, an area of film we've neglected until now. Not just any Iranian film, but Asghar Farhadi's 2011 masterpiece, A Separation! Two is to donate this month's Patreon funds to the ACLU for their efforts in the event in question (we wouldn't do this unless we absolutely knew that our supporters wouldn't mind us doing so).
This drama focuses on a couple who has separated, and the events that their separation is directly responsible for.

In this week's episode, we give lip service to a great (largely overlooked) Irish animated film, Song of the Sea. As Celtic as they come, this great film by the director of The Secret of Kells tells the story of Saoirse (not at all pronounced how it's spelled) and her brother as they search for a magic coat. *cue Star Wars Theme*
Welcome! Can you believe it's been 20 years since the Star Wars Special Editions were released? Especially weird considering THAT release was in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the original film's release!
No matter your opinions on the special editions (now sadly the only editions), you have to admit, if you were alive at the time, it was exciting. You got to see the phenomenon in theater! And in a way you hadn't seen them before! Added shots, cleaned-up picture and sound (the film prints were apparently in terrible shape), and improved effects! So come join us in nostalgiaville as we talk the Special Editions, and really the trilogy as a whole.
