Happy Independence Day (to our American listeners, anyway; to everyone else, Happy July 4th)!
We decided to celebrate today by of course talking about Roland Emmerick's 1996 classic independence Day! We talk about everything on this movie, and I do mean EVERYTHING. How it has endured in the culture, what has changed in the last 20 years as far as this type of effect extravaganza, and yes, even the film's (and director's) flaws. So sit back, grab some fireworks (do try not to blow yourself up), and let's watch some explosions!

This week is a Patreon request by now-legendary movie picker Nathan Shinn, and guest what? He's here to discuss it with us! Nathan stumbled upon a little mumblecore Netflix film called 6 Years, a movie that's supposedly about domestic violence. Oh, it certainly has that, but.... yeah, you'll just have to go ahead and listen, because it will take WAY more than a paragraph to try to explain this absurdity.

Welcome to the Hiatus! Well, sort of.
We have a good couple months of material for y'all while Austin and Amanda get adjusted to their new life as PARENTS! Huzzah!
To kick things off, we have a subject that we've danced around, but have never formally covered: The DC Animated Universe movie initiative. In this episode, we cover the most recent film to kick off a unified effort, Justice League: War, and everything that led to this point, starting with Batman: The Animated Series in the 90's (which of course we both grew up with). So put on your cape and cowl (if ya got 'em) and let's dive head first into DC!

Welcome to HELL!! ...Development Hell, that is.
This week we talk about that endless abyss that a lot of film projects fall into, never to see the light of day. Some manage to fight to odds and crawl out (often years or even decades later), and hey, we talk about those, too! Some metamorphosize into other films, and some GET COMPLETELY FINISHED and just sit on the shelf collecting dust until the studio decides what they want to do with them. This our ode to all the films that fall through (or escape) the cracks.

Soooo, this is awkward.
Remember at the end of the Dope episode when we implied that our next movie would suck? Well, foot meets mouth as we talk the Spanish-language Mexican punfeast Un Gallo Con Muchos Huevos (aka "Huevos: Little Rooster's Egg-cellent Adventure" aka "We're gonna bastardize the english dub for the American market"). This fearless PG-13 children's feature about cockfighting-- oh, sorry.. Rooster Boxing is a very unique entry into the world of computer animated films. We talk culture differences, covert marketing strategies, and ultimately what lesson hollywood should take from this film.
We stress: should you seek this film out, WATCH THE SPANISH SUBBED VERSION. The English dubbed version is a different cut as well as a MUCH different film, devoid of the charm. Both versions can be found on the same DVD.

Welcome to the 90's! ..sort of.
At least that's the theme of this week's movie. We're discussing the 2015 Sundance hit, Dope! If you were to boilerplate the plot of this movie, it would go something like: "A group of teens must sell ecstasy to get into Harvard". But strangely, this DOES NOT DESCRIBE WHAT THE FILM IS at all! We talk what this movie gets right that others like it fail at, and why. So grab your Air Jordans, rock that flat top, and crank that Public Enemy, because it's time for Dope!

Welcome to our third annual April 1st edition of The Film Room!
This week we take a look at the second coming of the career of Harold Ragsdale, specifically the 1994-1999 Cybergun Films era. Even MORE specifically, we are covering the most successful of Cybergun's ventures, 1995's NeoNightmare (Neon-Nightmare). What happens when the Y2K bug infects all of a small tourist town's neon signs? Chaos, that's what! Hear us pick apart this bizarre relic of computer-effects-ridden film that is also clueless about how computers work.
